Oct. 21 is D-Day for Pac-10 divisions

The past few days have been filled with many a rumor as to what shape the Pac-10 will take when the conference expands by two teams and the same number of divisions next season.

This time next week, those rumors will have been replaced by a confirmed reality for how the Pac-12 will look for years to come.

According to a press release issued by the Pac-10, commissioner Larry Scott will hold a press conference Oct. 21 at 2:30 p.m. ET in San Francisco to announce, among other things, how the 12 schools will be divided into two six-team divisions.

The presidents and chancellors are scheduled to meet next week and, armed with the recommendations from their respective athletic directors, will vote on not only on how the divisions will look, but also a title game and the location of the first title game if, as expected, such a game is approved.

Barring a sudden change over the next six days, however, the divisions are expected to consists of a North and a South, and will likely look as follows:

NORTHCalStanfordOregonOregon StateWashingtonWashington State

SOUTHArizonaArizona StateUCLAUSCColoradoUtah

Hmmm, now that I think about it, that arrangement certainly looks very, very familiar...
