Brewster Watch 2010: No firing timeline set by Gophers

As we embark on what could become the final day of the Tim Brewster era in Minnesota, there’s yet another report on the status of the (for now) Gophers’ head coach.

A Minneapolis radio station reported Friday that, if Minnesota loses to Purdue today, the school has plans in place to announce Brewster’s dismissal shortly thereafter. At that point, Brewster would be afforded the opportunity to either finish out the season or simply go away post haste.

A search for his successor would then commence immediately regardless of the coach’s decision.

According to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, that report may not be entirely accurate. While the paper admits that intensive discussions regarding Brewster’s future have taken place this week, a source said no decision about the timing of a dismissal has been made.

Athletic director Joel Maturi declined to comment Friday on the spate of reports. Earlier in the day, Brewster’s boss had told the St. Paul Pioneer Press via email “you know my response” when asked about the speculation.

Regardless of whether it’s today or tomorrow or next week or next month, by all appearances it seems to be a matter of when, not if, Brewster’s hot seat is tossed to the curb and the hunt for a new head coach begins.
