Arkansas confirms a concussion for Mallett

It was thought that Ryan Mallett may have suffered a concussion in the second quarter of Arkansas’ loss to Auburn Saturday.

Sunday afternoon, the school confirmed as much.

According to a brief statement released by the school, Mallett has indeed been diagnosed with a concussion.

“Ryan Mallett sustained a concussion yesterday and his symptoms are improving,” head football athletic trainer Matt Summers said in a statement. “We will continue to evaluate him.”

That was the extent of Arkansas’ words on Mallett’s current state, and there was no indication one way or the other whether he will be available for this weekend’s home game against Ole Miss.

If Mallett is unavailable, Tyler Wilson would get the start for the Razorbacks. In a little over two quarters of play after replacing Mallett yesterday, the sophomore completed 25-of-34 passes for 332 yards and four touchdowns, but did have two costly fourth-quarter interceptions that led to 14 Tiger points.

It was Wilson’s first game action since the season opener Sept. 4.
