Firing squad reloads, whacks UNT’s Todd Dodge

For the second time in the past three days, a Div. 1-A head coach has found himself heading for the unemployment line before the end of the season.

According to the Denton Record-Chronicle, Todd Dodge is out as the coach at North Texas. The school has not yet confirmed Dodge’s dismissal, and an email seeking comment on the report has not been answered.

Mike Canales, who came to the Mean Green from USF this past offseason, will take over from Dodge on an interim basis while also continuing his job as offensive coordinator.

A search for Dodge’s replacement will commence immediately the paper reports.

Dodge, a ballyhooed Texas high school coach with just two years experience as collegiate position coach before taking over the UNT program in 2007, finishes his career with a 6-37 record, including a 1-6 mark this season. His .130 winning percentage is the worst in the school’s history.
