Arkansas gets good news on offensive injury front, bad on defensive front

After losing their leading receiver to a season-ending injury, Arkansas will get their second-leading receiver back just in time. Unfortunately, a sometimes starter on the defensive line is a no-go for Saturday’s game against South Carolina.

First, the good news. Wide receiver Joe Adams, who missed last weekend’s game with an ankle injury, will play against the Gamecocks after a solid week of practice. Barring an unexpected setback, of course.

“Joe’s had a good week,” head coach Bobby Petrino said. “He came out on Tuesday and he got some work in. He actually did more than I thought he’d do and looked good. He came out Wednesday and did more. He hit top speed probably four or five times on Wednesday, and then came out today and went through the entire practice. As long as there’s not a setback, I believe he’ll be ready to go.”

Adams is also the Razorbacks’ top punt returner, so he’ll help bolster the special teams as well.

Unfortunately, Byran Jones will not be on the same field as Adams. The freshman defensive tackle, who’s started four of the eight games he’s played this season, has been ruled out because of an ankle injury. Not only that, but starting DT DeQuinta Jones may or may not play as well. Jones was suspended for last weekend’s game following an arrest for marijuana possession and has yet to be reinstated.
