Cornhuskers dealing with QB injuries yet again

A 9-6 loss to Texas A&M Saturday that set offensive football back at least a decade was bad enough for Nebraska. Now, the Cornhuskers will be forced to deal with injuries to the quarterback position ahead of their regular-season finale.

Following up on a post from yesterday evening, starting quarterback Taylor Martinez (no relation) aggravated an ankle injury in the first quarter of the loss and, while he finished the game, he was far from the “old” Martinez prior to the injury he suffered last month. As far as Friday against Colorado goes, head coach Bo Pelini gave no indication as to the freshman’s availability.

I don’t know,” Pelini said. “It’s too early to tell. He finished the game fine, so I figure he’ll be fine for next Friday.”

Martinez’s backup Zac Lee is dinged as well, and perhaps worse than the starter. According to the Lincoln Journal Star, Green’s arm/shoulder injury is serious enough that it could end what’s left of his season, although the school has thus far refused to confirm that’s indeed the situation.

In the end, if Martinez is unable to recover sufficiently from the dreaded high-ankle sprain, it could very well be Cody Green starting under center against the Buffaloes. And, depending on how things play out, in the Big 12 title game as well.
