Cody Green gets the call at QB for ‘Huskers

Not only will Nebraska be without their leading receiver for a game that would propel the Cornhuskers to the Big 12 North crown and a spot in the conference title game with a win, but now they will have to without the trigger man of their offense as well.

Head coach Bo Pelini announced Wednesday that Cody Green will get the nod at quarterback Friday against Colorado. Starter Taylor Martinez has been bothered throughout the month by an ankle issue, and now has a case of turf toe to deal with as well.

It’s more the turf toe,” Pelini said in regards to what’s keeping Martinez from starting the game.

Martinez, who was limited in practice yesterday, and Zac Lee will backup Green, who will be starting his second game of the season. In his other start -- a 31-30 win over Iowa State Nov. 6 -- Green completed 7-of-12 passes for 79 yards.

Pelini said that, if the ‘Huskers make it to the Big 12 championship game, he expects Martinez to be healthy enough to play.
