Oregon clinches Pac-10, keeps NC hopes intact

Oregon took a chapter from the Auburn book of comebacks, but at the end of day, they’re still No. 1.

The Ducks were mistake prone and off their game as they headed into the locker room down 19-14 at the half against Arizona. Looking back, though, it was probably just a head start. In the second half, the Ducks returned to their more familiar form, winning by a final score of 48-29.

With the win, Oregon locks up the Pac-10 for the second straight year and keeps their national championship hopes alive. A trip to Corvallis to take on rival Oregon State next week isn’t exactly a cakewalk, but you’d have to think Auburn’s trip to the SEC title game poses more of a threat than the Beavers do.

From the first week, one of the major story lines of the season has been the non-automatic qualifying schools and their chances at the national championship -- almost assuming in some way that the top-2 teams would fall at some point. At times, it looked like Oregon and Auburn might.

But Oregon didn’t lose and neither did Auburn. They remain undefeated and in continuing to do so, will have earned the right to play in the BCS national championship.

You know, the one where it’s not decided on the field.
