Garcia ‘should be fine’ for SEC title game

For those concerned that an injury will sideline South Carolina’s starting quarterback for Saturday’s SEC title game, don’t be. Probably.

Stephen Garcia suffered an injury to his left (non-throwing) shoulder during the win over Clemson Saturday while also banging the thumb on his throwing hand on a helmet during the same game, although it’s the former injury that seems to be more of a “concern”. Garcia’s arm has been in a sling since suffering the injury and he’s been held out of practice as well.

That should change Wednesday as Garcia’s expected to practice today, and head coach Steve Spurrier doesn’t seem to be the least bit concerned that his starter will be anything but available for the championship game against No. 2 Auburn.

“He should be fine by Saturday night,” Spurrier said.

As noted by the Charleston Post & Courier, the injury to Garcia was viewed seriously enough that some sportsbooks pulled the game off their boards. It’s since returned, and, according to SportsBook.com by way of NBC Sports.com, the Tigers are currently a five-point favorite over the Gamecocks.
