Report: Sooners OC to interview for Indiana opening

Late last week, Bob Stoops vehemently denied an ESPN report that his offensive coordinator had interviewed for the head coaching vacancy at Indiana.

Three days later, it appears those denials may have just been putting off the inevitable.

Citing a source in the OU athletic department, Tulsa World is reporting that Oklahoma coordinator Kevin Wilson will interview for the IU job Monday evening. There were reports earlier today that a plane that started its trek in Indianapolis landed in Norman this morning, then flew back to Indianapolis.

Wilson avoided all talk of the Hoosiers opening following the Sooners’ win in the Big 12 championship game Saturday night.

“We’ll see. I don’t know,” Wilson said when asked It’s the time of the year where you’re getting through the last game. I mean, this was a big game. This was Celtics-Lakers for the last time. Or the Cowboys-Redskins. We needed this game for the school, for the program, for the state. There’s a lot of tradition. So we threw a lot of eggs in the basket.

“Always this time of year maybe there’s a chance for something. But when you get into the postseason you don’t want to... The most important thing is winning this game.”

Now that that game is over, however, it appears that Wilson is one of the leading, if not the leading, candidates for the vacancy.

While this may be getting a little ahead of the news, it’s rumored that, if Wilson is offered the IU job and accepts it, OU quarterbacks coach Josh Heupel would take over the reigns of the Sooners’ offense.
