Yes sir: Army hands Ellerson a contract extension

Less than two full years on the job, and Army head coach Rich Ellerson is already the recipient of a contract extension.

Guess that’s what happens when you lead the service academy to their first bowl appearance in 14 years, eh?

Ahead of one of the greatest rivalries in all of sports, Army has announced that they have reached an agreement in principle with Ellerson on a contract extension. According to a release, it’s a two-year extension and would technically tie the coach to the academy through the 2015 season.

Ellerson was hired Dec. 28, 2008, and has led the Black Knights to an 11-12 record with two games remaining this season. If he can manage to beat either arch-rival Navy this weekend or SMU in the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl Dec. 30, he would become the first Army head coach to win at least 12 games in his first two seasons since Tom Cahill in 1966 and 1967.
