Syracuse punter to have surgery for brain tumor Tuesday

On Dec. 2, it was discovered that Syracuse punter Rob Long had a benign brain tumor that would require season-ending surgery. This Tuesday, Long will be in Philadelphia to have the mass removed and, thankfully, according to three different doctors, all signs point to a successful procedure and recovery.

According to the feature from Syracuse.com, one doctor even went so far to say that Long could still try his luck playing in the NFL.

“My family and I would like to thank everyone for their supportive thoughts and prayers in the past week. We are staying positive and focused on a favorable outcome to surgery, which will take place on Tuesday, December 14 in Philadelphia,” said Long. “The outpouring of support has been overwhelming. I am grateful for everyone in the Syracuse community and the Orange football family.”

Long was a tw0-time All-Big East selection who averaged nearly 44 yards per kick this season.

Certainly, all of us wish Long well during the procedure and, if it’s your thing, please keep Long in your thoughts and prayers as he is an example that there are more important things than football.
