Wegher granted release from Iowa scholarship

A year ago at this time, Brandon Wegher was coming off a regular season that saw the then-freshman lead Iowa in rushing touchdowns.

12 months and zero minutes in playing time logged in 2010 later, the running back is all but done at the school.

According to multiple reports, Wegher has asked for and been granted a release from his Iowa scholarship. The only stipulation in the release is that he not transfer to a Big Ten school as a scholarship player in 2011.

Wegher left the team in early August due to personal reasons, and, despite various rumors throughout the year, never returned to the team in-season.

In 2009, Wegher set a school record for freshmen with eight rushing touchdowns and was second on the team in rushing with 641 yards. He finished his one -- and only, as it turns out -- season with the Hawkeyes by rushing for 113 yards in the Orange Bowl win over Georgia Tech.
