Rising frosh RB won’t go bowling with Sooners

Oklahoma’s Roy Finch had rushed for nearly 200 yards in the final third of the season and his role behind starter DeMarco Murray had gradually expanded as his production increased.

Unfortunately for both the freshman running back and the Sooners, any additional glimpses of what the future may hold at the position will have to wait until spring.

The school announced Saturday that Finch had suffered a recurrence of a stress fracture in his left foot and will miss OU’s Fiesta Bowl “match-up” with UConn. Finch, who originally suffered the injury in August and missed the first five games of the season because of it, aggravated the foot during a non-contact drill in practice Friday. He’s expected to be on the shelf for about seven weeks, meaning he should be fully recovered by the time spring practice rolls around.

Finch is currently second on the Sooners with 398 yards rushing, and he’s actually tops on the team with a 4.7 yards-per-carry average.

With Finch sidelined, Mossis Madu, who began the year as Murray’s

primary backup, is expected to see his role increase for the postseason game. Madu is currently third on the team with 251 rushing yards.
