Tulsa may be calling a Hog to fill coaching vacancy

Earlier today, it appeared Texas A&M defensive coordinator Tim DeRuyter was the favorite to replace Todd Graham as Tulsa’s head coach.

Now, though, it’s looking more and more likely that the school’s new coach will come from the other side of the ball.

According to Matt Jones of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, and citing sources familiar with the discussions, Arkansas offensive coordinator Garrick McGee is in negotiations tonight to become the next head coach at Tulsa. McGee reportedly interviewed with athletic director Bubba Cunningham, and was scheduled to sit down with the school’s president Thursday.

By the tone of the Democrat-Gazette‘s report, those meetings went very well.

The 37-year-old McGee has never been a head coach and just completed his first season as the Razorbacks’ coordinator. He was also Northwestern’s coordinator in 2006 and 2007.
