Highly touted DE Williams headed to Notre Dame

Because, you know, we’re contractually obligated to write something positive about Notre Dame every once in a while to keep the big suits happy.

With national signing day just a month away, heavily recruited defensive end prospect Ishaq Williams verbally committed to the Irish today over Syracuse and Penn State.

At six-foot-six, 230 lbs., Williams is a four-star recruit from Brooklyn, New York (Abraham Lincoln HS) who recently attended the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, which was -- wouldn’t you know it -- televised on NBC.

An interesting angle on the verbal commitment is Syracuse. No, the Orange didn’t quite land Williams, but the fact that they came so close says a lot about the job Doug Marronre is doing there. Given their history and tradition, the Big East benefits when Syracuse is good. Coming off an great bowl win over Kansas State, you’d have to think things are looking up for the Orange.
