Auburn’s leading receiver past two years jumps to the NFL

Even as the deadline for eligible underclassmen to enter the NFL draft

came and went Saturday, there’s still news of players who made their declarations under the radar trickling in.

The latest is Auburn wide receiver Darvin Adams, who has decided to forego his remaining collegiate eligibility and make himself available for the April draft.

Adams, who would’ve been a senior in 2011, led the Tigers in receptions the past two seasons, with 52 during the title run this past year and a school-record 60 in 2009. He averaged 17.5 yards per catch and totaled 17 touchdowns the last two years.

Adams becomes the third junior to leave the Tigers early, joining Heisman winner Cam Newton and consensus All-American Nick Fairley.

As noted by the Birmingham News, not only will Gene Chizik have to replace those three very productive juniors, but 24 seniors as well.
