‘Canes able to reel in, keep Fisch

Exhale, Miami fans. Your school has not lost their newly-minted offensive coordinator.

Whether that will ultimately end up being good news or bad remains to be seen.

Following the Seattle Seahawks’ unexpected decision Tuesday to off -- in the coaching sense -- offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates, Jedd Fisch emerged as one of several candidates mentioned as a potential replacement. However, ESPN‘s Bruce Feldman was also reporting around the same time that Fisch was “100-percent committed” to the Hurricanes, which had hired the Seahawks assistant as their coordinator last week.

At least for now, Feldman is correct.

Fisch has completed his first day at Miami and it appears the 34-year-old coach has rebuffed, and will continue to rebuff, any overtures from the NFL club. In fact, ESPN‘s Adam Schefter, who originally reported thar Fisch was a candidate to take over for Bates, tweeted that The U’s new coordinator “isn’t going anywhere”.

A university further solidified Fisch’s commitment to the football program, telling the Palm Beach Post that the coordinator, the paper writes, was in the process of completing paperwork related to his hire, including taking an NCAA recruiting certification exam that he must pass before he can begin contacting prospective student athletes.

With signing day approaching, this is at the very least excellent short-term news for new ‘Canes head coach Al Golden.
