Ole Miss hires Gunter Brewer away from Oklahoma State

Instead of filling the two vacancies on his Oklahoma State coaching staff, head coach Mike Gundy has yet another hole on that side of the ball to deal with.

In a press release, Ole Miss announced that they have hired Gunter Brewer as their new associate head coach/passing game coordinator/wide receivers coach. Brewer had spent the past six seasons as an assistant with the Cowboys.

The Brewer name is far from unfamiliar in Oxford; his father, Billy Brewer, served as the Rebels’ head coach from 1983-1993.

“Gunter has coached and recruited names like Randy Moss, Dez Bryant and Justin Blackmon, and it’s exciting to have him on our staff,” Nutt said. “He is an outstanding recruiter, and what he has done in the passing game in recent years is remarkable.”

To make room for Brewer, Ron Dickerson Jr. has taken his leave of Houston Nutt‘s staff.

Brewer’s departure means Gundy will have to fill the vacancy at wide receivers coach in addition to the openings at offensive coordinator and running backs.
