UCLA’s search for defensive coordinator trudges on

After last week’s embarrassment of text messages and social media sites seemingly scuttling the hiring of Rocky Seto, UCLA continues to stumble their way blindly through their search for a new defensive coordinator with yet another name surfacing as a candidate.

According to the Los Angeles Times, and citing a source familiar with the search, Kentucky defensive coordinator Steve Brown interviewed for the same position with the Bruins this week. Brown has been the Wildcats’ coordinator for the past four seasons.

Prior to joining the Wildcats as an assistant in 2003, Brown spent six seasons as a defensive assistant with the St. Louis Rams.

In addition to Seto, former Miami Hurricanes head coach Randy Shannon has also interviewed for the UCLA vacancy. Shannon is also reportedly a candidate for the coordinator job at Maryland.

And, speaking of Shannon, can somebody just hire the man already? As little sense it makes that Mike Leach is not back in the game, it makes even less sense that Shannon is still on the sidelines three months after getting the boot from the Hurricanes. Regardless of how you feel about the job he did with the ‘Canes, he’s a helluva defensive coach and would be a home-run addition as a coordinator for any staff in the country.
