Starter among two Cyclones arrested overnight

It’s bad enough when a football coach has to deal with one player getting arrested. Today, Iowa State’s Paul Rhoads is dealing with double the trouble and, presumably, half the fun.

According to the Ames Tribune, junior defensive end Jake Lattimer and junior tight end Ricky Howard were arrested overnight, although it’s unclear from the report whether the arrests stemmed from the same or unrelated incidents. Lattimer was charged with assault on a peace officer and interference with official acts, while Howard was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

As a result of the arrests, both players have been indefinitely suspended by Rhoads.

In 2010, Lattimer played in 12 games, starting five of them. He led the Cyclones in sacks with four, and his 6.5 tackles for loss were second on the team. Two of Lattimer’s sacks came against Texas, and he earned Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week honors for that performance.

Howard transferred from Chaffey College last year, and did not record a reception during his first year in Ames.
