Less than a month after parting ways with UCLA due to personal reasons, Frank Gansz Jr. has found himself a new coaching job. And, once again, a Gansz will be charged with coordinating SMU’s special teams.
The school confirmed rumors that surfaced immediately after he left the Bruins by announcing Friday morning that they head coach June Jones hired Gansz as their special teams coach. Gansz had spent the past three seasons with the Bruins as their special teams coordinator.
Prior to his time at UCLA, Gansz spent eight years at the NFL level, with stops in Baltimore (2006-08), Kansas City (2001-05) and Oakland (1998-99).
He’s also coached at the collegiate level with Houston (1993-97), Army (1990-91), Pittsburgh (1988-89) and Kansas (1987).
Gansz’s father, Frank Sr., served as SMU’s special teams coach in 2008 before passing away in April of 2009 after suffering major complications following knee replacement surgery.
