PGA pro dons TCU’s SuperFrog costume to make good on Rose Bowl bet

Apparently, during the run-up to the Wisconsin-TCU Rose Bowl showdown, PGA touring pros Jerry Kelly, a native of Madison, Wis., and J.J. Henry, who was a member of the Horned Frogs golf team, agreed on a friendly wager as to the outcome.

These weren’t your run-of-the-mill, buy-me-dinner stakes, though. No, the loser had to drop his school pride and very publicly don the “uniform” of the winning school’s mascot.

Wednesday, Kelly went yard in paying off the wager, four months after his beloved Badgers fell to the Horned Frogs in Pasadena.

Shortly before Kelly and TCU head coach Gary Patterson were set to tee off at the Crowne Plaza Invitational pro-am in Fort Worth this week, Kelly did, well, this:

“Some guys bet and some guys follow through,” Patterson said according to ESPNDallas.com. “He followed through. He looks great.”

“He’s just a great sport,” Henry said. “Obviously, when we found out TCU was playing Wisconsin, we wanted to have some fun with it. He’s a great guy, great for the game and a fun guy to be around. Today is all about having a great time. It was fun to do this.”

As for the actual tee shot Kelly hit while wearing the SuperFrog gear? A result I’m unfortunately very familiar with: a low, screaming hook that didn’t have a prayer of sniffing the short stuff.
