Ex-Ole Miss QB headed to Div. 1-AA

After unofficially falling to No. 4 on Ole Miss’ quarterback depth chart, Nathan Stanley officially decided in mid-April to take his talents elsewhere.

A little more than two months later, Stanley has decided where his next collegiate football step will take him.

By way of Brandon Marcello of the Jackson Clarion-Ledger, Stanley confirmed to the Tahlequah (Okla.) Daily Press that he has settled on a transfer to Southeastern Louisiana. Stanley had also reportedly received interest from Tulsa, Montana, Montana State and Stephen F. Austin.

As his new school plays at the Div. 1-AA level, Stanley will be eligible to play in 2011.

“I liked what I saw; I liked their offense,” Stanley told the Daily Press. “I just decided that’s where I needed to go. ...

“I really like their competition at quarterback. I feel like I have a good shot of going in there and being able to play right away.”

Stanley exited spring practice in 2010 as the Rebels’ starter, but entered summer camp that year attempting to (unsuccessfully) fend off Oregon transfer Jeremiah Masoli. As spring practice began to develop in 2011, it became apparent that the Rebels’ QB pecking order began -- tentatively -- with former JUCO transfer Randall Mackey, then West Virginia transfer Barry Brunetti and then JUCO transfer Zach Stoudt. Stanley, apropos of nothing, was a member of head coach Houston Nutt‘s first recruiting class at Ole Miss in 2008.

And, for those asking, yes, it’s impossible for The Very Reverend Nutt to home-grow a QB in Oxford as he’s obviously too busy plowing the transfer fields to pay any mind to the kind of stuff that would actually result in a long-term gain for his football program. Or he’s still living vicariously through the pair of nine-win seasons the already-there Jevan Snead handed to him. One of the two.
