Six months after leaving Texas Tech to “pursue other career opportunities” -- which, for a New York Minute, included speculation of a potential stop at Florida -- former Red Raiders defensive coordinator James Willis has pleaded guilty to a charges of assault and domestic abuse.
Willis has been sentenced to six months deferred probation and could face up to one year in jail if he violates said probation. Willis must also attend anger management classes and complete 30 hours of community service.
The original incident at Willis’ household came just days before the announcement that Willis was leaving TTU. According to police reports obtained by FOX 34, “Shalane Willis claimed her husband slapped her, hit her in the nose and threw her on the bed during an argument. Mrs. Willis says she ran out the front door to the neighbors’ house to call 911.”
Red Raiders coach Tommy Tuberville has maintained that the incident had nothing to do with Willis’ decision to leave the program. TTU has since hired former TCU assistant Chad Glasgow.
As for those “other opportunities” for Willis? Well, suffice it to say they haven’t panned out just yet*.
