Tyler Gabbert having second thoughts on Louisville?

Back in late June, and nearly two months after abruptly deciding to leave Missouri, it was reported that Tyler Gabbert would be transferring to Louisville.

Less than two weeks later, those plans appear to be on hold. Or off altogether.

According to both the Card Chronicles, and ESPN radio, Gabbert has left the Cardinals football program and has no intention of returning. No reason was given for Gabbert’s about-face, and the school has yet to issue any type of clarification as to Gabbert’s status with the team. That clarification is not expected to occur until head coach Charlie Strong returns from vacation Wednesday.

In addition to leaving Louisville, Gabbert reportedly would like to return to Missouri. The only problem with that? His old school is apparently not inclined to reciprocate the interest in a reunion.

As for where Gabbert might land if he’s indeed leaving Louisville and Mizzou wants nothing to do with him, Iowa, Arizona and Wake Forest were also reportedly a consideration for Gabbert prior to what turned out to be a temporary decision on the Cardinals. Clemson was also mentioned as a possibility, but that speculation was quickly shot down.

Gabbert left Mizzou shortly after losing the spring practice battle for the starting QB job to James Franklin. He headed to Louisville due in large part to his family’s longtime relationship with Shawn Watson, Louisville’s new QB coach.
