Reserve WVU LB charged with armed robbery

Ummm, oops?

West Virginia is reportedly facing a wee bit of off-field adversity -- again -- ahead of the start of Dana Holgorsen‘s first summer camp as Mountaineers’ head coach, with one of the first-year coach’s players staring at what looks to be a rather serious criminal charge.

According to West Virginia MetroNews, linebacker Branko Busick was charged with armed robbery following an incident Monday evening. The North Central Regional Jail’s website lists the charge against “Nicholas Branko Busick” as being a felony, and no bail amount has been set as of this posting. The specific charge or charges were not yet listed on the site.

Here’s the MetroNews’ account of what led to the arrest:

Police say they received a call around 5:00 from a man claiming that another man with a gun and two acquaintances entered an apartment and demanded money from him. When he told them he had no money, the victim says he was struck repeatedly with the gun and forced out of the apartment.

The school has yet to issue a comment/statement on the situation or Busick’s status with the team.

Busick, who would be a redshirt sophomore in 2011, played in two games last season. His bio on the school’s official website states that the Steubenville, Oh., native will be competing for the starting middle linebacker job this year. Whether that’s still the case after this turn of events remains to be seen.
