Reggie Bush’s copy of Heisman returned to his family

Remember when Reggie Bush just kinda-sorta forgot to give back his version of the Heisman Trophy to the Heisman Trust nine months after promising to do so?

Well, now it’s been officially returned.

To Bush’s family.

Back on March 22nd of this year, Bush’s family entered a loan agreement with the San Diego Hall of Champions to put Bush’s Heisman on display. However, like the Lost Ark of the Covenant, it sat in a back room buried in its box.

Nearly four months later, the trophy has been returned.

Sources close to the situation told the Dan Patrick Show that “the Heisman Trust contacted both the San Diego Hall of Champions and the Bush family last week to request the return of Bush’s Heisman Trophy to its office in New York City.”

If you’ve followed this story at all, you know it’s one of many attempts the Trust has supposedly made. However, the Trust has since entered into the “no comment” zone regarding the trophy’s potential return.

The SDHOC released its own statement on the matter:

“The San Diego Hall of Champions today (Friday) returned Reggie Bush’s Heisman Trophy to the Bush family. In doing so, the organization feels it is best to direct any further questions to the Bush family or the Heisman Trust.”

Bush and his family have been mum on the situation. That likely isn’t going to change.

Last September, Bush said that he would “voluntarily relinquish” his copy of the 2005 Heisman, which he later stated was “not an admission of guilt” for allegedly accepting impermissible benefits while at USC.
