When Lache Seastrunk was given an unconditional release from his Oregon scholarship, it was immediately rumored the running back would be headed back to his home state of Texas and transferring to Baylor.
As it turns out, this is one rumor that has actually come to fruition. In a release sent out Tuesday afternoon, Baylor announced that Seastrunk has signed a financial aid agreement and will enroll in classes at the school.
“I think Lache is back where he needs to be,” Briles said in a statement, “on Texas soil at Baylor University where he will have the opportunity to get a quality education and play football at the highest level. We’re looking forward to him being a great teammate.”
He will also, obviously, become a member of the Bears football program; whether he will play in 2011 or 2012 is unknown. When asked via email if Seastrunk would seek a waiver that would allow him to play immediately, Heath Nielsen, assistant AD for communications, told CFT that “eligibility won’t be determined immediately.” In other words, the school will file a waiver on Seastrunk’s behalf -- the back reportedly has a sick grandmother in the area, and that would be one consideration for a waiver to be granted -- and await the NCAA’s decision.
If the waiver is denied, Seastrunk would be forced to sit out the 2011 season to satisfy NCAA transfer rules.
Seastrunk has been buried on the depth chart behind Heisman finalist LaMichael James, Kenjon Barner and true freshman Da’Anthony Thomas, which likely played a significant role in his decision to leave the Ducks.
A five-star member of Oregon’s 2010 recruiting class, Seastrunk was the No. 3 running back in the country according to Rivals.com.
