A game wasn’t the only thing Mississippi State lost at Jordan-Hare Stadium Saturday afternoon.
Midway through the second quarter of their game with Auburn, starting left tackle James Carmon had his left leg rolled up on and was ultimately taken off the field on a cart. He did not return to the playing field, spending the rest of the game on the sidelines with crutches and a hefty knee brace.
The extent of the damage to Carmon’s ankle/knee is not yet known.
Carmon was replaced by redshirt freshman Blaine Clausell, who drew the praise of head coach Dan Mullen following the loss.
“They stepped up,” Mullen said, also referring to redshirt freshman Dillon Day, who replaced injured starting center Quentin Saulsberry. “I was pretty pleased. We had not one snap issue. I didn’t see one issue with either of the two guys on the O-line, except now we’re not very deep.”
The injury to Saulsberry, incidentally, is believed to be relatively minor.
