Zook to ‘deal with’ LB Brown after knee-to-groin incident

As you’ll recall from the “Losers” section of our Fifth Quarter: Week 5 recap (yes, that was a plug), Illinois linebacker Jonathan Brown appeared to intentionally knee Northwestern lineman Patrick Ward in the groin during what would be a 38-35 win by the Illini.

As a commenter correctly pointed out, Brown was in fact flagged for a personal foul, but whether he will serve any form of punishment remains to be seen.

During his Sunday conference call, Illinois coach Ron Zook said he would “deal with” Brown on an unspecified level.

“I’m going to deal with it. He knows better than that,” Zook said. “When you get into a game like this, there’s a lot of talking and pushing and shoving on both sides. I guarantee you’ll never see that again.”

What we did see, though, was an apology from Brown via Twitter.

“I wanna apologize to my coaches, fans and family for the way I acted yesterday,"Brown said. “I acted out of charecter and it was embarrassing and it won’t happen again.”
