Schiano to stick with Nova at quarterback

Despite a three-interception performance against Louisville, it looks like Rutgers is going to stick with freshman Gary Nova for the remainder of the season. Head coach Greg Schiano said after Friday’s loss to Louisville that he’s taking into consideration which quarterback -- Nova or Chas Dodd -- has the most potential to develop.

Yeah, I believe he is (the starter),” Schiano said. “We’ll visit as a staff, but the plays that he made are still the reason that he’s the quarterback. It’s what he sees and how he feels in the pocket. We just need to keep developing him.

“We know that Chas can go in there and do it. We have to make sure if Gary needs to take a break, we’re willing to do it. We didn’t feel that was the case (Friday). The thing I think (Nova) does so well is he feels the pocket. He moves up in the pocket and he delivers the ball down the field.”

Statistically, Nova wasn’t terrible in the 16-14 loss, but the turnovers were deadly. The loss puts the Scarlet Knights at 2-1 in the Big East, which thankfully for them, is a muddled mess right now. Even if Nova’s inexperience costs Rutgers a couple games in the remaining season, Schiano clearly is looking toward the future, which would indicate he’s nowhere near the hot seat coming off a 4-8 season.
