Houston has a problem: he’s done at Ole Miss

Shortly after Ole Miss’ mind-boggling 12th consecutive loss in SEC play Saturday, Houston Nutt was quoted as saying “I don’t know... I don’t know” when asked about his future as the Rebels’ head coach.

Less than 48 hours later, Nutt’s future has reportedly been clarified. And, as expected, it does not involve being in Oxford beyond this season.

According to RebelGrove.com, and subsequently confirmed by NEMS360.com, Nutt has been told that this will be his final season as head coach of the Rebels. Nutt will stay on to coach the Rebels for the final three games of the season.

Nutt’s regularly scheduled press conference will take place at 3 p.m. ET today, but Ole Miss associate athletic director Michael Thompson told Rebels247.com that this presser “would be different.” Per Thompson, a press release is slated to be issued at some point this morning.

When reached for a comment on the rumors swirling around Nutt, an Ole Miss official told CFT “there’s nothing to report at this time.” That will apparently change in short order.

In his fourth season at Ole Miss, Nutt has compiled a 24-23 overall mark, including an embarrassing 10-20 record in SEC play. The 12-game losing streak in conference play is a school record, besting the mark of eight straight set by the man he replaced, Ed Orgeron.
