Stanford’s Owusu out against Oregon

Stanford’s offense will officially be down a pair of playmakers against Oregon this Saturday hit with the loss of wide receiver Chris Owusu.

As you’ll recall from this past weekend, Owusu took a major hit in a win against Oregon State, suffering a concussion in the process. Owusu was carted off the field and taken to a local hospital for further evaluation. He was able to return to his team later in the day.

He will not, however, be able to return to the field against the Ducks, coach David Shaw confirmed today. Shaw said “we’re going to be overly cautious” with Owusu, adding that he doesn’t want the receiver to return too soon after his second helmet-to-helmet hit in as many weeks. Owusu had previously been hit in the head by USC safety T.J. McDonald, who was suspended for one half against Colorado for the hit.

Owusu’s absence means Stanford will be without two of his top four receiving targets. Tight end Zach Ertz has been listed as doubtful with a lower leg injury.
