Dan Mullen would be shocked if Urban didn’t coach again

For a reason not readily apparent to most anyone but himself, Florida head coach Will Muschamp has stated on two different occasions this week that he would be surprised if Urban Meyer took the head coaching job at Ohio State as has been rumored ad nauseam for most of November.

One man who knows the former Florida coach quite well, however, has a different line of thinking when it comes to Meyer’s coaching future in general.

Dan Mullen was an assistant on Meyer’s staff at Bowling Green, Utah and Florida before striking out on his own and taking the Mississippi job. While not addressing the Buckeyes speculation specifically, Mullen said it would be the least bit surprising if Meyer got back on the sidelines at some point.

I’d be shocked to not see him coach again at some point,” Mullen said according to the Starkville Dispatch.

“Urban is a young guy and (coaching) is in his blood. I don’t know if this is the year or not but at some point (he’ll get back into it). More than the Pop Warner football and little league baseball he’s doing now. I can’t imagine how intense that little league practice must be.”

Despite myriad denials, Meyer is expected to officially be named as the permanent successor to Jim Tressel at OSU at some point next week, perhaps as early as this coming Sunday.
