Pat Hill, the longtime coach at Fresno State who was most famous for challenging BCS opponents on the field has been relieved of his coaching duties, according to an official school release. The word of Hill’s firing first came via footballscoop.com.
Hill just finished his 15th season at Fresno State, a disappointing 4-9 campaign. Although he only won a single WAC title with FSU in 1999, Hill was a model of consistency throughout his career with the Bulldogs, averaging eight wins per year from 2007-10.
But, the Bulldogs hadn’t won a bowl game since 2007, and with the emergence of Boise State over the past decade, never even a shared WAC title in the past 10 years.
Earlier this season, Hill announced that defensive coordinator Randy Stewart was stepping down after a poor defensive showing, but that turned out to be only a mild adjustment that couldn’t save Hill’s job.
Hill compiled a 112-80 overall record at Fresno.
