Notre Dame OC reportedly a finalist for UMass job

Two weeks ago, UMass fired their coach of three years Kevin Morris as the school prepares to make its jump to 1-A football in the MAC next season.

While an official announcement of a new coach hasn’t been made yet, it appears that Notre Dame offensive coordinator Charley Molnar (not pictured) is emerging as the frontrunner for the job and could be introduced as the new Minutemen coach sooner rather than later.

According to the Boston Globe, Molnar met with UMass athletic director John McCutcheon last weekend in Pittsburgh. The interview apparently went so well that McCutcheon is merely working on the final pieces before bringing in Molnar as the new coach, perhaps as soon as later this week.

Molnar has been with Irish coach Brian Kelly during his stops at Cincinnati and Central Michigan.
