Sandusky posts bail, will be confined to his home

Yesterday, former Penn State defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky was arrested on new sex abuse charges stemming from accusations from two new alleged victims. Those charges include:

  • Four counts of first-degree felonies punishable by up to 20 years in prison and $25,000 in fines for involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and two counts of unlawful contact with a minor.
  • One count of indecent assault and two counts of endangering the welfare of children. Those are third-degree felonies and warrant up to seven years in prison and $15,000 in fines.

Sandusky was jailed after he could not post $250,000 in bail; prosecutors had sought $1 million in bail.

After spending the night in jail, Sandusky has posted bail using $200,000 in real estate holdings and a $50,000 certified check provided by his wife, Dorothy, according to online court documents.

Sandusky will be confined to his home, subject to electronic monitoring and prohibited from having any contact with any witnesses or alleged victims in the attorney general investigation.

Sandusky has maintained his innocence throughout the scandal, appearing on Rock Center several weeks ago in a super-creepy interview with Bob Costas. In all, Sandusky faces more than 50 charges of child-sex abuse.

Those counts include the eight original victims identified in the original grand jury indictment, plus the the two new victims -- now identified as Victims 9 and 10 in another grand jury release.
