One name in the coaching carousel that hasn’t quite come up to the extent that perhaps I had thought it would is Baylor coach Art Briles. Although Briles is just a game shy of holding a .500 record during his four seasons in Waco, the success he’s been able to achieve there in the past two years is remarkable.
It helps to have Robert Griffin III.
But Baylor is making sure that Briles is well taken care of in an effort to try to keep him around. The Houston Chronicle reports that Briles is on the receiving end of a contract extension, although the length of it remains unknown.
Briles already had five years left on his contract, but this should sweeten his deal a little more.
It’s a good move.
One thing that’s been really impressive about Baylor is the team development around RGIII as this season progressed. I honestly believe this Baylor squad is better as a whole now than it was when they upset TCU at the beginning of the season.
That’s good coaching. Good coaching that has earned an extension.
