Chad Morris inks six-year deal with Clemson to make him highest paid assistant

Clemson offensive coordinator Chad Morris has quickly become 2011’s version of Gus Malzahn.

Travis Sawchik of the Charleston Post and Courier noted last week that Morris, who was reportedly courted by Ohio State under new coach Urban Meyer, had agreed in principle to a new contract worth $1.3 million annually for six years.

According to CBS’ Bruce Feldman, that contract, worth $7.8 million, has been inked. The new contract is a raise of almost $1 million annually; Morris had signed a four-year deal at $450,000 annually earlier this year.

The new deal makes Morris the highest paid assistant in college football along with Malzahn.

The Tigers averaged 24 points and 334.6 offensive yards a game last season; they are averaging 33.6 points and 440.6 yards this year.

Clemson will play West Virginia in the Orange Bowl.
