Rumored to be of interest to Houston as Kevin Sumlin’s replacement, Dave Christensen will instead stay at Wyoming with a new contract.
Funny how that works sometimes, eh?
According to Robert Gagliardi of the Laramie Boomerang -- follow Mr. Gagliardi on Twitter; good dude, great resource for college football -- the Cowboys have confirmed they have reached an agreement in principle with Christensen on a new long-term deal. It’s a new five-year contract that will include some type of bump in salary for Christensen.
“It’s not formalized in writing, and that will happen on Monday or Tuesday when we get back to campus,” said athletic director Tom Burman prior to their loss to Temple in the New Mexico Bowl. “He’s thrilled and his family is thrilled, and we’re thrilled to keep him.
“I really don’t want to talk about dollar figures until we get it done, but there is a significant raise. We want to keep him here, and we knew we had to up the ante.”
Christensen made in the neighborhood of $843,000 in 2011. It’s safe to assume his new deal will take him into seven-figure territory.
During his three years in Laramie, Christensen has led the Cowboys to an 18-19 record and two bowl berths
