Tyrone Nix visits Oklahoma to interview for LB’s job

With Brent Venables officially gone from Oklahoma to take the defensive coordinator job at Clemson, the Sooners have a vacant spot to fill on their defensive staff.

It remains to be seen who will be the new linebackers coach -- former Arizona coach Mike Stoops will be defensive coordinator along with his defensive back duties -- but former South Carolina and Ole Miss DC Tyrone Nix is at least in the mix for that open spot.

According to a SoonerScoop report over the weekend ($), Nix was in Norman on Saturday to talk to Bob Stoops about joining the defensive coaching unit. Nix was released from Ole Miss when Hugh Freeze took over as head coach following Houston Nutt’s dismissal last season. He was replaced by Dave Wommack.

Travis Haney of The Oklahoman goes on to say the safe bet for the job is former Arizona DC Tim Kish, but explains that Nix should get a serious look as well.
