Addazio reportedly no longer in the mix for Rutgers job

Since Greg Schiano abruptly and unexpectedly left Rutgers for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, there have been two names most mentioned as potential replacements -- FIU’s Mario Cristobal and Temple’s Steve Addazio.

Based on one report, one of those should no longer be considered as a possible successor.

According to Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer, and citing a source with inside knowledge of the situation, Addazio will not be the next head coach at Rutgers and will instead remain with the Owls. The proviso “unless something drastically happens” was added to the report.

Addazio just completed his first season at Temple, guiding the Owls to a 9-4 record and a New Mexico Bowl win. He had previously spent six seasons as an assistant at Florida.

With Addazio apparently out of the mix, Cristobal, RU interim head coach Kyle Flood and New York Giants offensive line coach Pat Flaherty. Flood confirmed Saturday that he has already interviewed for the vacancy.
