Curtis Johnson completes Tulane coaching staff

Coming up on two months since being hired by Tulane to lead the Green Wave as the new head coach, Curtis Johnson has finally assembled his coaching staff.

The school announced that eight new coaches have been hired with one assistant from Bob Toledo’s old staff being retained.

The new coordinators are Eric Price (offense), formerly of Memphis, and Jon Sumrall and Lionel Washington (defense). Sumrall comes from the University of San Diego and Washington from the UFL’s Virginia Destroyers. Washington also spent many years as a defensive assistant with the Green Bay Packers.

The new assistant coaches are David Johnson (tight ends/running backs), Barry Lamb (linebackers/special teams), John McDonell (offensive line), Mike Neu (quarterbacks) and Keith Williams (receivers). Jason Rollins, the lone assistant to be retained, will coach defensive backs.

“When you’re hiring a staff, you want to pick guys that will be like family and these coaches are guys I will trust in the good times and the bad times,” Johnson said. “Everything won’t always be touchdown left and touchdown right. There will be some tough times. There always are no matter how successful a program is and you have to come together as a staff and pull yourself out of adversity.”
