New Maryland recruit goes too far with Jeremy Lin tweet

Well, the Jeremy Lin phenomenon -- I refuse to use the term “Linsanity” or any other pun involving Lin’s name -- has made his way into the college football hemisphere.

Sorry, we tried as to keep it out as long as we could.

And, frankly, we wouldn’t be dealing with this if new Maryland signee Stefon Diggs could learn to be a five-star recruit who can stay away from saying anything too outragious. But, as with most teenagers, that’s a task on the difficulty scale of somewhere between “Not going to happen” and “What R U, trippin’? LOL”

The soon-to-be Terp managed to channel his inner Jason Whitlock when he tweeted the following message about Lin last night:

stefon diggs

Well, that’s... that’s classy. I’m sure Maryland will be real thrilled with this maneuver fresh off of the Danny O’Brien transfergate. In Diggs’ defense, though, he did apologize later.

Look, it was a dumb thing to say, but anybody who takes the words -- excuse me, the tweets -- of a high school senior too seriously has some things they need to sort out too.

But there is a valuable lesson to be learned from all of this. As comedian Ron White once put it, “Next time you have a thought, just let it go.”
