Buffs in the future for ex-Kansas QB Webb?

Most of the transfer attention at the quarterback position the past month or so has gone to Danny O’Brien, but there’s another homeless but experienced signal caller who could soon find himself with a fresh football start.

Jordan Webb, who left the Kansas program back in January, confirmed to Kyle Ringo of the Boulder Daily Camera that he is interested in transferring to Colorado to continue his playing career. And, it appears, that interest is being reciprocated by Jon Embree; Ringo writes that the head coach “is apparently concerned enough about his program’s lack of experience under center that he is exploring the possibility of adding” Webb into the QB mix.

“That’s the main reason I’m leaving Kansas because I want playing time or at least an opportunity for it and if I go in and work hard at learning the offense and things like that I could have a good shot,” Webb told the paper.

Webb decided to leave the Jayhawks after Dayne Crist transferred to the school and was told he’d have no shot at being the starter for a third straight season. Interestingly, Webb would have to compete with another transfer for the starting job if he decided to sign with the Buffs.

Connor Wood left Texas last year and transferred to CU in late August. After sitting out last season, Wood is regarded as the favorite to win the CU job, particularly after Nick Hirschman was knocked out for the spring with yet another foot injury. The presence of Webb, however, could change the dynamic at the position, if for nothing more than his edge in experience over both Wood and Hirschman.

Webb started 19 games for the Jayhawks the past two seasons, including all 12 in 2011. He’s completed 61 percent of his passes for 3,079 yards and thrown the same number of touchdowns as interceptions (20).
