‘Horns leading ’11 picker out for rest of spring

Coming off a season in which he led Texas in interceptions, Quandre Diggs will be sidelined for the remainder of the spring due to injury.

UT head athletic trainer for football Kenny Boyd confirmed to reporters Saturday that the cornerback recently underwent surgery on his left wrist, although it wasn’t specified how the injury occurred. The injury and subsequent medical procedure will keep him out for what’s left of the Longhorns’ spring practice, which ends April 1 with the annual spring game.

The good news, Boyd said, is that the issue is not expected to affect Diggs’ availability for summer camp in a few months let alone the 2012 season.

As a true freshman in 2011, Diggs’ four picks led the squad. He started 11 of the 13 games in which he played last season, and his name littered many postseason Freshman All-American lists.

Additionally, he led the ‘Horns in punt return average (20.1, on nine returns) as well as finishing second in kick return yards (371, on 19 returns).
