Kansas announces ex-Husker DL’s signing

Less than two weeks after reports first surfaced that Josh Williams would be moving on from Nebraska to Kansas, that move has been confirmed.

In a release, the Jayhawks announced that the defensive end has signed with KU. As Williams graduated from NU late last year, he will be eligible to play immediately.

The 6-4, 260-pound lineman will have one year of eligibility remaining.

Williams played in 26 games the past two seasons, starting two contests in 2011. A three-star member of NU’s 2008 recruiting class, Williams was rated as the No. 12 weakside DE coming out of high school in Denton, Tex.

Williams becomes the fourth player to transfer to KU since Charlie Weis became head coach, joining quarterback Dayne Crist (Notre Dame), quarterback Jake Heaps (BYU) and wide receiver Justin McCay (Oklahoma). Williams and Crist will be eligible to play in 2012, while Heaps will be forced to sit out a transfer season.

McCay has applied for a hardship waiver that would allow him to compete immediately.
