Ex-OU LB commits to reunion with Venables at Clemson

A little over a month after announcing his intention to transfer for the second time in less than a year, and a couple of weeks after paring down his to-do list to two schools, Kellen Jones has found himself a new collegiate football home.

As expected, the Anderson Independent Mail and Palmetto Sports are reporting that the linebacker committed to Clemson Wednesday night. The Houston, Tex., product chose Clemson over Purdue, where he had also taken a visit prior to making his decision.’

Jones played as a true freshman at Oklahoma last season and will be reunited with Venables, who left the Sooners following the 2011 season to become the Tigers’ new defensive coordinator. While Venables’ presence was certainly a factor, Jones said it wasn’t the only thing that played a role in his decision.

It was a family connection,” Jones told Palmetto Sports. “I liked the tradition, the atmosphere and the coaches.”

After signing with Michigan as a member of its 2011 recruiting class, Jones announced last summer that he would be transferring from the Wolverines, ultimately landing in Norman last August. Jones ultimately wound up playing in 12 games at OU last season.
