For his involvement in a May 3 house party that resulted in his arrest, Notre Dame linebacker Carlo Calabrese has been charged with a misdemeanor count of intimidation, prosecutors for the case announced today.
Calabrese was arrested along with Notre Dame quarterback Tommy Rees when the two reportedly confronted officers breaking up the party. The linebacker was initially charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct and Rees was hit with four misdemeanor charges of his own.
Police said Rees “actively resisted” arrest while Calabrese “became vocal” in attempting to help his teammate. That’s when the linebacker reportedly told an officer “my people will get you.”
From today’s Chicago Tribune report:Prosecutors said Calabrese asked [officer] Finley “if he knew a particular officer,” then “stated that he knows people,” then “asked if Officer Finley was a Notre Dame football fan.”
The charging documents state Finley responded that it was “irrelevant,” to which Calabrese allegedly responded “that it was relevant and that Officer Finley did not like Notre Dame football by how he (Finley) was acting toward him and his teammates.”
Once Rees was taken away by police, prosecutors said, Calabrese told Finley “My people will get you.” Prosecutors said Finley asked Calabrese if he was threatening him, to which Calabrese allegedly repeated “My people will get you.”
Prosecutors added that Calabrese “did communicate a threat to Sgt. Dorian Finley, with the intent that said Sgt. Dorian Finley be placed in fear of retaliation for a prior lawful act.”
A court hearing is scheduled for tomorrow, but Calabrese is not expected to show.
Calabrese played in all 13 games for the Irish last season, recording 37 tackles.
